How do I add Penalty Scores?

How to add Penalty Scores to a member's record.

After it has been deemed by the club's Handicap Committee that it is necessary to apply Penalty Scores to a member's record, below are steps to post a Penalty Score.

  1. Go to the golfer's profile in Admin Portal.
  2. Select the "Post Scores" tab.
  3. Select "Total Score" on the left-hand side.
  4. Make sure to select the Penalty Score box.
  5. Select Auto (the system creates a score for your) or Manual (you create the score).
  6. Select High (creates a score based on the highest score differential of the last 20 scores) or Low (creates a score based on the lowest score differential of the last 20 scores) based on the situation.

Below are the recommendations for applying Penalty Scores according to Rule 7.1b in the Rules of Handicapping (pages 79-80):

"The value of any penalty score applied to a player's scoring record should be appropriate for the circumstances and/or the player's intent. For example:

  • If the player is determined to have acted with the purpose of lowering their Handicap Index, the penalty score should be equal to the highest Score Differential in their last 19 scores.
  • If the player is determined to have acted for the purpose of raising their Handicap Index, the penalty score should be equal to the lowest Score Differential in their last 19 scores.
  • If the player has not submitted a score for any other reason, and the score is not discoverable, the penalty score should be equal to their Course Handicap plus the Course Rating of the tees played, rounded to the nearest whole number.

For a player who repeatedly fails to submit acceptable scores, the Handicap Committee or the Authorized Association should consider either withdrawing their Handicap Index or taking other disciplinary action (for example, prohibiting the player from entering club competitions for a defined period of time)."
